The Delaware & Hudson Salem Branch

the salem branch of the delaware and hudson(now known as the greenwich and jhonsonville) is a short line with operating trackage from Greenwich,NY to Egale Bridge,NY were they exchange cars with the Boston & Maine RR now known as the guilford rail system there is also a branch that goes to a paper mill in lower greenwich NY barley used.in the outskirts of salem,NY there is the cargill grain hopper were the cars are emptied. the freight G&J usally carries fertilizer pulp wood and grain.the railroads offices are located in greenwich new york.that is were old cars and supplies are held along with two authentic alco locomotives two RS-3s these locomotives are the only motive power for the freight trains on this line nothing but old locomotives and old cars what could be better!.some other information is that this railroad use to have a tourist railroad called the Battenkill Rambler .that went from salem to shushan or cambridge there was once a plan that the railroad would take passengers from amtrak trains in egale bridge ny to salem by train on the battenkill to the fort salem theater for a play and would take the train back to get on a amtrak train back to were ever they came .that never happended because of money issues with the government.now the tracks to salem are for the most part abandond the maine line is from the junction out side of salem at the cargills grain hopper to egal bridge and from the hopper to greenwitch.this is it for my little information about one of the coolist shortlines in ny state.
